9th German-Romanian Roundtable Talks on Europe
The European Union find itself at the beginning of a new institutional cycle. Its agenda for the next years will however have to be geared towards coping with challenges and slow moving crises that are threatening the Western backed world order. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is a major piece in the puzzle. The world of peace of the last decades is being slowly replaced by a world of disruption and geopolitical competition, which affects Europe's standing among other global actors and its ability to defend its interests and core values.
Against this background, how to make Europe fit for the future, how to implement the new Strategic Agenda and how to reform internal decision-making while maintaining cohesion and strengthening resolve in tackling threats and challenges have been some of the questions on the agenda of the 9th German-Romanian Roundtable Talks on Europe, that took place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Bucharest.
The Romanian-German Round Table (EURT) is a bilateral dialogue format on European affairs initiated by the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP Berlin) and the European Institute in Romania (IER) and organized with the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Romania (FES). The format brings together diplomats from the two foreign ministries and experts in European affairs and foreign and security policy from German and Romanian think-tanks.
