City of the future– towards a more sustainable urban mobility. How can we ”copenhagenize” our cities?

In an age of increased urbanisation, strained public health and continued addiction to the automobile, modern mobility solutions are needed more than ever. Bicycles are an important tool for successful urban mobility – however, modern urban planning is often neglecting this, focusing solely on technical models, statistics and political considerations.

How can we shift the focus and build our cities around a more sustainable and friendly mobility, making them more bicycle friendly – in other words, „copenhagenize” the cities? How can we put the bicycle user first and design our cities from there?

Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Romania invites you to a debate about modern mobility solutions for our cities. While the Danish and Dutch cities are considered leaders in the urban bicycle movement, there are more unexpected places that seemingly “came up from nowhere” as cycling cities. Together with our guest speaker, Lorenz Siegel, we will explore how these cities function, how did they make use of the potential that bike infrastructure holds and what are the most effective ways of re-establishing of the bicycle as a normal form of urban transport.

16th November 2022, 18.00-19.30

The event will be in English and Romanian, with simultaneous translation.

About the speaker:

Lorenz Siegel has worked in bicycle infrastructure consulting for almost 6 years. As part of Copenhagenize Design Co, one of the thought leaders in the world of active transportation, he helped plan and implement best practice infrastructures and develop communications strategies and wayfinding systems on 4 continents – from California to Kazakhstan.

After 6 years in the Copenhagenize offices in Denmark and Canada, he now splits his time between Montréal and Europe as a consultant for the Copenhagenize office in Paris.
