From vulnerable consumers to citizens entitled to energy

The dynamics of the energy market following the liberalization process in 2021 and the crisis caused by the Covid pandemic 19 highlighted the need for energy policies through which households' access to affordable energy services is stable and continuous. A quarter of Romanians were affected by energy poverty in 2017, but in the current context it is expected a deepening of this phenomenon. The current legislative framework does not address issues related to energy poverty and increasing consumer vulnerability.

Against this background the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Romania invites you to a discussion on energy poverty, in which together with the guest of the event we will discuss how meeting the needs for energy can become an issue associated with citizenship, placed in the area of rights, complementary to the market perspective in which the focus is on the consumer.

The event will have as guest George Jiglău, university lecturer and expert at the Center for the Study of Democracy, with a PhD in Political Science obtained in 2013 at Babeș-Bolyai University and a Master in Political Science at CEU Budapest (2007). George Jiglău wrote and edited a series of volumes and articles published in national and foreign magazines on topics such as elections and electoral systems, parties and party systems, interethnic relations, energy policies and the phenomenon of energy poverty.
