In 2021, Romania had one of the highest average real GDP growth rates of over 2.7%, while gross value added generated by sectors in the economy almost doubled in nominal terms, from 115 billion euro to almost 217 billion euro, according to Eurostat. This growth was mainly supported by sectors such as IT, professional, scientific and technical services, administrative services and support services. However, this economic growth did not translate into a fair distribution of the wealth created. Despite the impressive economic growth, Romanian society is marked by deep inequalities and social exclusion.

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Romania 2030 Project Association Cluj Napoca are pleased to invite you to participate in the event: The unequal development crisis. How can we transform economic growth into social welfare?

Our event aims to address the issue of development gaps, from regional disparities, public goods unequal access, to energy poverty.

The focus of the discussions will switch in the second part of the event to solutions that will come from a multitude of perspectives: economic, social, demographic, security, in response to questions asked by the audience in the room or collected in advance from social media.
