EaP Priorities in a Post-pandemic Setting - What is next after the elections in the Republic of Moldova?

However, unfolding political events in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries themselves as well as an increasingly assertive posture of the Russian Federation in the region have kept the Eastern Partnership on the EU agenda. The already postponed 2020 EaP Summit, now foreseen for the end of 2021, will take place in an already complex international environment, as the world is trying to find ways out of the pandemic. The summit is expected to bring new long-term goals and indicators for the EaP countries, in accordance with the Communication of the European Commission on the Eastern Partnership policy beyond 2020 issued in March 2020.

The Republic of Moldova’s July 2021 snap elections have put the political debate in Chisinau under the spotlight. Strengthening resilience, while supporting the political stability needed for the country to maintain the course of reforms continues to be seen as the overarching framework of engagement in the relationship between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. Against this background, we aim to discuss about the outcomes of the parliamentary elections and their political implications for the country’s future development in the EaP.
