GENDER QUOTAS IN ROMANIA. How to communicate strategically?

For the first time in Romania, the electoral legislation could expressly provide for gender quotas. Several legislative initiatives, now at various stages in Parliament, deal with the subject of introducing gender quotas for local, parliamentary elections and on the boards of state-owned companies. The adoption of clear regulations guaranteeing a balanced and fair political representation between men and women would be a turning point in Romanian politics.

But adopting gender quotas is not the end point of a successful strategy. The interested actors in society must continue their efforts in communicating with the political parties, responsible for the lists of candidates, and with the general public, which has the ultimate power to elect women to public positions. At the same time, strategic communication must encourage women to assume political roles and provide leadership to the women and men around them.

Against this background, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Romania together with the Filia Center are pleased to invite you to a debate on strategic communication for the introduction of gender quotas with the participation of Mrs. Elke Ferner, president of UN Women Germany, member of the board of the National Council of Women Organizations in Germany, the strongest advocacy organization for women's rights in Germany.
