Labor relations and social dialogue in Romania: an overview at the beginning of the year

On February 12, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung România and Syndex România brought together trade unions and experts to assess the state of labor relations and social dialogue in Romania at the start of the year.

On February 12, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Romania and Syndex Romania organized a round table discussion entitled "Labor Relations and Social Dialogue in Romania: An Overview at the Beginning of the Year." The event aimed to provide an overview of recent developments in the field of labor relations and social dialogue, as well as to facilitate the exchange of perspectives between trade unions and labor experts on current challenges and directions for trade union action in both the private and public sectors.

Participants discussed the structural problems of social dialogue in Romania, including the lack of real dialogue with the authorities, pressure on employees, and low unionization, especially in the private sector and among young people. The need for unity among trade unions, strengthening communication with members, and protecting employees' rights was emphasized.

The discussions drew attention to the fact that the division between public and private sector workers is artificial and used politically to antagonize and conceal the responsibility of decision-makers for the problems they face.

The purpose of the meeting was to promote cooperation between trade unions, strengthen social dialogue, and protect workers' rights in a context marked by fiscal imbalances, pressure on employees, and difficulties in maintaining a genuine social dialogue.
