Legislating a right to disconnect

18.4% of employees in Romania started working from home as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, compared to only 0.8% before the pandemic.

Despite the legal provisions, employees working remotely face a significant problem in terms of work-life balance. Does this situation require the recognition of a specific right to disconnect? The right to disconnect refers to the right of workers to disconnect from their work and to no longer receive or reply to any work-related email, call or message outside normal working hours.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Romania had a debate on this topic on December 11, 2020 during which the FES Romania-UNI Global report entitled “Legislating the right to disconnect” was launch.
