Youth Leadership and Civic Activism Summer Camp
This summer, from July 28 to August 2, 2024, the Politeia Association, with the support of FES Romania, successfully organized and hosted a dynamic and impactful summer camp in Brașov County. The camp aimed at empowering the next generation of civic leaders and brought together more than 25 young participants aged 18 to 26, who were selected based on their engagement in the online workshops titled "Ce drepturi am? / What Are My Rights?".
As part of a broader initiative to foster civic engagement and activism among Romanian youth, the camp provided an intensive exploration of crucial topics such as labor issues, community organizing, trade union formation, and the role of media in advocacy. Notably, the camp addressed a critical gap in the Romanian education system, where school education on labor rights and workplace responsibilities is often insufficient. This lack of formal education leaves many young people unaware of their rights and how to effectively self-organize and advocate for themselves in the workforce. Participants engaged with both the theoretical and practical aspects of social change and individual responsibility. These sessions were expertly facilitated by professionals in the fields of education, activism, and labor rights, who shared their extensive experience and insights.
One of the camp’s key aspects was its commitment to accessibility. With no participation fee and all costs related to accommodation, meals, and transportation covered, the camp ensured that motivated young activists from diverse backgrounds across Romania could fully participate without financial barriers.
The event underscored the ongoing commitment of FES Romania and Politeia to creating a socially conscious and active youth, well-equipped to contribute to a more fair and equal society. By the end of the camp, participants had not only deepened their knowledge but also expanded their networks, forging connections with like-minded peers and mentors to support their ongoing development as civic leaders.
This collaboration between Politeia and FES Romania highlighted the power of strategic partnerships in creating meaningful opportunities for youth engagement. The camp served as a vital platform, preparing participants to tackle contemporary societal challenges with informed perspectives and actionable skills.
Below, you will find the results of a video workshop where participants creatively explored and promoted trade union formation, using storytelling and social media to advocate for workers’ rights.
